Vibrational Energy Harvesting
If you’re a big walker, you might feel happy knowing your steps and moving vehicle can do more than transport your body from Point A to Point B. Your steps can have a hugely positive impact on the environment. Scientists call this vibrational energy harvesting. It converts your steps into electrical energy. To put it simply, this process involves taking mechanical vibrations, seen in your footsteps, and taking out the electrons to create power. In turn, this could charge your phone or other gadgets, which means energy saved for other things.
According to World Scientific, “A large amount of vibration occurs due to the motion of vehicles on the bridges and working of various types of machinery in industries and buildings. Scientists consider these residual energies discharged into the surroundings as a wasted potential energy source. By using smart materials and adopting different techniques of energy harvesting, electrical energy can be harvested.” That will also prevent the use of batteries, which will lighten up the horrible load seen in landfills (World Scientific).
