Northern White Rhino
Decades of illegal poaching for the rhino’s horn have sent this poor creature onto the extinction list. It’s the world’s rarest rhino, and after staggering rates of horn hunting has increased, their population plummeted. In the wild, it has almost certain extinction. The last male died in 2018, and the two remaining females are too old to reproduce. Take one last look at this rhino, because we won’t see it anymore. With each passing day, their full extinction looms over our heads. Scientists are working hard to try and bring back their species using technology to take skin cells and turn them into immature egg cells (Smithsonian Mag).
