Nicobar Pigeons are one of the most stunning and unique birds in the world, with a striking appearance that makes them instantly recognizable. These birds are found only on the Nicobar Islands, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, and are known for their iridescent feathers, bright orange eyes, and long, elegant tail feathers. Nicobar Pigeons can seamlessly navigate over vast distances using the earth’s magnetic field. It’s almost otherworldly. Recent studies have shown that these birds are able to detect and interpret the magnetic fields of the earth, allowing them to navigate accurately even in the absence of visual cues. This seemingly supernatural ability is thought to be critical to the survival of Nicobar Pigeons, as they must travel long distances between their breeding and feeding grounds.
